Reasons for the War on Iraq

Post 9/11, the common American citizen could have been told anything for our reasons to go to war with somebody and we would have believed it. I can't recall a time in my life that I saw our country so united. Everywhere I looked, I saw American flags. They were painted on cars, waving outside of homes and on t-shirts everywhere. I would be willing to bet that after 9/11, the production of flags and materials with the flag on it increased 10fold or more. People were so distraught that someone could come into our country and kill thousands of our people the way that they did. After 9/11, the United States public was told that terrorists attacked our country and that the terrorists group responsible was Al- Quaeda. We were also told that Iraq was responsible for harboring such terrorists and that Saddam may be conspiring to provide these terrorists with WMD(weapons of mass destruction). On top of these reasons of why we needed to go to war with Iraq, we were also painted a picture of the awful dictatorship that Saddam was running and how we need to help democratize the country. Now, eight years later, no WMD found, Al-quaeda still a threat and thousands of U.S. soldiers dead, I wonder was our purpose served and were the reasons listed above our only reasons for going to war with Iraq.

  1. The terrorists that took the plane into new york city came through Canada and through Maine and literally directly past the road my cabin is on. It baffles me that they even got into the country in the first place. Maybe we should be focusing more on the borders than affairs in Iraq
